A resounding reminder was hit home courtesy of Lyon’s win over Manchester City in Match Day 1 in the Champions League, and Sarri’s Chelsea was in no mood for such giant-killing. While the scoreline might be emphatic as expected, winning the game to claim all three points instills confidence in the team and calm nerves heading into other group game. After all, winning is all that matters.

It’s often that winning runs boost team morale and confidence, and the players’ ability to come off with a win against the Grecian side is commendable. More satisfying is the fact that Chelsea’s perfect start to the season extends into Europe and this will help the team develop good spirit heading into our gruesome fixture list that will see us play 7 games in 23 days.

When news of key players, Eden Hazard, David Luiz and some others being rested for this game went round, many would have seen it as a gamble by Sarri.
