Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is ready to spend heavily at his new side to strengthen the core of his team and remains in the hunt for a new defensive addition.
After the signing of Italian midfielder Jorginho from Napoli this summer, the Italian gaffer is keen on raiding Serie A once again for the signing of his compatriot Daniele Rugani.
As reported by Goal, the Blues are now set to make an improved bid of £45m for the 23-year-old, having seen their initial approach of £36m rejected by Juventus.
With those demands having been met, the Premier League club are now expected to push through a deal for the Italian seven-cap international and are prepared to offer around £4m-a-year in wages.
The centre-back has worked alongside Sarri previously during their time with together at Empoli, where the club earned promotion from Serie B, and is understood to be keen on a reunion.
In other news, Chelsea have completed the signing of Robert Green on a free transfer after being released by Huddersfield, where he did not make a first-team appearance last season.
The goalkeeper have registered a total of 650 games for Norwich, West Ham, QPR and Leeds and has 12 England caps. It’s believed the 38-year-old goalkeeper will serve as back-up to Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero at Stamford Bridge.
