Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is reportedly planning to sign in-form Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been on fire for his side since the start of the 2018-19 season – scoring four goals and creating two assists in their first seven Serie A meetings.
He has equally netted twice in two appearances in the Champions League ahead of their midweek battle against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
However, reports claim the Blues boss wants to strengthen his attack despite recording no fewer than twenty goals in nine EPL games so far.
Former Real Madrid forward, Alvaro Morata has only scored twice this season while Giroud is yet to make an impact when goalscoring is concerned.
it is understood the Blues will have to cough out a whopping sum of £97.5 million to trigger his release clause from his current deal with the Italian giants.
Other realistic targets for the Premier League giants according to the Daily Mail are Genoa sensation Krzysztof Piatek and Gonzalo Higuain.
Icardi has confirmed that he will consider any offers that come in for him, amid interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Speaking about his future to Radio Onda Cero, as cited on Calciomercato, Icardi admitted that he is happy at the San Siro, but refused to rule out a future move away.
“There are many voices, when offers will come we’ll evaluate them, but I’m very happy here at Inter.”
