Liverpool were stunned at their home stadium after Chelsea came from behind to score two goals and oust Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool boss Jurgen klopp revealed his disappointment at the end of the game and slammed the referee for not overruling Emerson’s goal, which cancelled out Daniel Sturridge’s opener.
He first bashed his defence for giving out too much space as he said after the game: “We knew how Chelsea wanted to play but we gave them too much space and weren’t compact enough. We still had the bigger chances in the first half.”
Despite VAR not being able to fish out Emerson’s offside, Klopp insisted that the Chelsea left-back was off and that that keita’s rash tackle on Victor Moses wasn’t a foul.
He said: “No, I don’t think so. The linesman is in a really good position. There was so much in the game.
“Unfortunately in the end we have to take it. We wanted to win it, we feel unlucky, we hit the bar.”
Klopp said he believed Chelsea’s goal should have been ruled out despite VAR giving it in Chelsea’s favour.
He said: “I think the first goal is offside. Three players are offside – two for sure.
“They watched it and didn’t think it was offside. We have to take it.
“This is good preparation for Saturday but we have to defend better.”
Chelsea and Liverpool will meet again in the Premier League on Saturday.
